Training
Balmoral Triathlon Club Information
Activities:
Every week at Balmoral Triathlon Club you can benefit from our several professionally coached sessions coached by the great coaches from Energylink and from the many informal sessions hosted by fellow members. If you're new to the club come to one of the training sessions listed below and get the know your fellow BTCers or email
info@balmoraltriclub.org.au for more information.
Swim:
Every Saturday afternoon all year round, there is a open water swim session held at Balmoral Beach. Meet at the Balmoral Triathlon Clubrooms in front of the Balmoral Baths at 2:45pm. A wetsuit is recommended for the winter months and feel free to bring along some paddles for strength work or some fins if you think you may battle to keep up.
Track / Road run:
Every Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8pm we meet at the Alan Border (Mosman) Oval for a quality run session. From September to April this session is hosted on the oval in a track style format and during the winter months we head out on the road for some tempo runs, hill repeats or whatever else the coach can think of.
Brick: Season start the first Saturday in September
Bike and run sets in Centennial Park Sat 7:00-9:30am on the roughly circular 4km road within the park. Some BTC members meet at the top of the stairs at the north end of the bike path and ride across the Harbour Bridge (western side). About half drive in to where we meet between the Duck Ponds on Parkes Drive in the middle of Centennial Park. (See below for map)
Training sessions vary according to the time of year and become more sport and speed specific as the season progresses - we use triathlon bike racks at brick sessions for real transition practice and the nearby caravan kiosk does great coffee to chat over afterwards.

Balmoral Triathlon Club Brick and Track Sessions
Training Session Outline: A note from our coaches
Energy Link Coaching will plan sessions with flexibility and variety. They will be suited to the elite, age group and beginner athlete. Many people are racing right throughout the year with very individual short course, long course and Ironman events and "peak" events also being planned across the racing season. With this in mind, Brick and Track session programs will be designed to the best of our ability with various outcomes and goals in mind.
The cycles of strength endurance/ speed endurance/ speed will be delivered within our training sessions and technique will also be addressed and ongoing throughout the season.
You can be sure that there will be a session going that will challenge you and that you will enjoy.
We will also be around after the sessions answer any questions you may have.
We hope to see you out there!

Coaches: (as above)
We are coached by Bruce & Christina Thomas and Bern Ward from Energy Link who have had great triathlon careers. Bruce is a member of the Australian Triathlon Hall of Fame.
We do not cancel sessions because of rain - we may modify them, but always do something.
Competing:
During the season we hold 4 triathlons, a number of bike and running time trials and a summer series aquathlons. We finished 3rd at the NSW Clubs' Championships 2009 and 2010, where about 100 members competed and partied afterwards.
Most members take a few weeks off before doing informal strength/endurance work over winter.
We have a wide range of athletes attending sessions from beginners to age group place-getters and we often get a few members from our club qualifying the the world Ironman champioship held at Kona, Hawaii.
Informal sessions:
Informal bike group rides from the cafe at the corner of Military Rd and Avenue Rd, Mosman, at 7am on Sat (steady) and Sun (hills) mornings. Email info@balmoraltriclub.org.au for more information. A faster group leaves from Cremorne McDonalds on Sundays at 7am.
Every Tuesday night at 6:30pm Lew hosts an informal spin class at the BTC clubroom. Bring your indoor trainer and your bicycle and enjoy a quality cardio set while you work on your bike skills.
Different small informal groups run and cycle at different times during the week but nothing formal. Attendance at one of the weekend rides at present is the best way to suss out who is doing what.
Northside Runners Group have various run sessions during winter. http://www.nrg.asn.au/
Costs:
Membership $55p.a. + we recommend TNSW/TA membership as well; necessary if you wish to race.
Coaching $5 per formal session – informal sessions are free. (Click here to join Balmoral Triathlon Club online)
The best way to find out about us is to turn up and do a couple of coached or informal sessions to see if we are what you want before deciding to join; you can also discover who might be appropriate training partners. Your only outlay will be the $5 session fee for coached sessions.
