Balmoral Triathlon Club Youth and Junior Programme

Balmoral Triathlon club encourages Juniors and Youths to get involved in the club and enjoy our great sport of Triathlon.

Juniors & Youths can join the club for just $35, or with their parents as part of the Family membership ($110 for two adults and all children)

BTC Juniors (‘J’s’)

You can join Balmoral as a junior if you are aged between 7-13 years.

The emphasis is on participation and fun. If you are under 12 we do request that your parents/guardians are present at the sessions you attend.

If you have joined as a junior member you are welcome to come to our running training which is at the Alan Border Oval in Mosman, on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8.00pm, currently there will be no charge to you for this session.

Here one of our qualified coaches will take you through a session that will include a warm up, running technique, and intervals specific to Triathlon running.

You will run on the same course as the Youth members and Seniors, but you will be given a running set specific for Juniors.

We would also encourage you to attend our aquathlons at Balmoral Beach on Friday nights (in summer – see website for dates). If you are aged 12 and over you can take part in the full aquathlon, but for safety reasons you will start in a separate ‘wave’ from the seniors. You do not need to be a member to do the aquathlons (though it works out cheaper if you are a member!) and you will pay the normal  participation fee. We do encourage you to become a member of the club so that you are included in the emails and we have a record of your participation.

For juniors aged 7-11 we will hold a separate fun aquathlon after the seniors event has concluded. Again there is no charge for this fun event.

We encourage you to attend swim squads, nippers and little athletics to improve your swimming skills and fitness. If you wish to improve your cycling skills you may wish to consider attending the bike skills course/training operated by the Northern Suburbs Cycle Club.

BTC Youths (‘Y’s)

You can join Balmoral as a youth if you are aged between 14 -18 years as at 31st December 2011.

For Youths the emphasis is on providing a pathway to becoming a senior club member, and potentially entering the TriNSW development programme.

If you have joined as a youth member you are welcome to come to our running training which is at the Alan Border Oval in Mosman, on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8.00pm, currently there will be no charge to you for this session.

Here one of our qualified coaches will take you through a session that will include a warm up, running technique, and intervals specific to Triathlon running.

You will take part in the same session as the seniors.

You are also invited to take part in our “Brick” sessions (Cycle & Run) in Centennial Park at 7.00am on Saturdays, and our open water swim sessions at Balmoral Beach at 3.00pm on Saturdays. Again, at this stage there will be no charge to you for these sessions.

Please note that to take part in the Brick or Open water swim sessions you must first satisfy the Brick or Swim Captain of your competence to take part in the seniors session.

We would also encourage you to attend our aquathlons at Balmoral Beach on Friday nights (in summer – see website for dates). For safety reasons you will start in a separate ‘wave’ from the seniors. You do not need to be a member to do the aquathlons (though it works out cheaper if you are a member!) and you will pay the normal member/non-member participation fee. We do however encourage you to become a member of the club so that you are included in the emails and we and you have an ongoing record of your participation.

For Youths who are serious about the sport of Triathlon we are establishing a Youth Training Programme with our professional coaches which will provide regular Triathlon specific training covering areas such as:

• The History of Triathlon in Australia
• The pathway to becoming a Professional
• Triathlon nutrition
• Selecting an appropriate bike
• Bike set up
• Selecting appropriate gear (wet suit, race suits, helmets, eye protection, running shoes)
• Training plans & Coaching
• Transition skills
• Sponsorship & Marketing
