Balmoral has come third at the NSW triathlon club championships for the third year in a row. This year it was particularly satisfying as the club was missing many of its speedsters and also a couple of key category winners in the 70+ age group. In addition we saw the re-emergence of Cronulla. At the end of the day we edged out the Hills Triathlon Club who had come second for the last two years.

Paul Bethell and Campbell Hanson travelled to Singapore recently to compete in their first Half Ironman distance race. Singapore is now the biggest 70.3 race outside of North America and this year attracted 1700 athletes with half of them being from overseas. Both being rookies at this distance they decided to pick an event with suffocating heat and humidity just to make it that little bit harder- they will all seem easy from now on right?

2010 will go down as one of the great days to have have raced the Hawaii Ironman. Carly knew that she got lucky, the weather and conditions on race day was almost as good as it gets. The conditions in the water were calm. The usual gusty conditions were present for the last 30km out to, and back from the Hawi turnaround, but they weren’t as nasty as they can be.

The Coastal Classic, a 30km off-road running race south of Sydney was meant to be an easy training run for Matt over a track he had always wanted to traverse, but had never found the time. This inaugural race, being held over the popular Otford to Bundeena walking track, involved traversing coastal rainforests, beaches and headlands, before a sandy diversion brought us to the tiny township of Bundeena.

With water temps at 14 degrees Sophia opted to not do a swim warm up. This made the first lap of the swim difficult but she did warm into it. Sophia's ride was good, not too hard, unfortunately her group wasn’t working well together and 6 girls got away in front and put time into them on every lap. Sophia came off the bike feeling okay and was ready for a good run. She was pegging back a few girls every lap of the run until handed a 15 sec penalty.

Arriving in Goondiwindi (“Gundy” to us locals) at 2:00pm on the Saturday afternoon, I hopped out of the cool comfort of my car’s air conditioning and was immediately hit with the intense heat of the place. The atmosphere at the registration area was electric as people queued up to get their race numbers and tickets to the carbo load dinner in the park that night.
