How lucky were we with the weather on Saturday Afternoon, the rain held off and we managed to get a few games of bowls in. It was great to see so many of our members join us for our annual awards party, we tried something a bit different this year, a more informal, family oriented afternoon so we hope you all enjoyed it. We certainly had a lot more people attend this year compared to previous years, and it was great to see all the kids enjoying themselves.
For the 4th year running, Balmoral Tri Club ran its annual Juniors Triathlon last weekend. We had a great turn out of over 50 juniors (7-16 year olds) that took part in our triathlon.
It was an absolutely stunning morning on sydney harbour, we were greeted with a glorious sunrise, which made the early start for everyone worthwhile.
We got really lucky with the weather again this Friday, despite windy conditions all day, Balmoral Beach was beautifully protected and the dedicated group of Friday night athletes were put through a slightly different set tonight.
It was an absolutely stunning morning down at Chowder Bay for our 2nd Betar Lawyers race of the season, catching a beautiful sunrise and watching a big cruise ship enter the harbour !
If you haven't been to one of our Friday Night Sunset Series before, its a timed training session, with a coach to run you through a warm up, and then any combination of one or more swims and runs.
Our swims are normally held inside the swimming enclosure at Balmoral Beach, so its a great way to get used to some open water swimming in a safe enclosure. Our run course is usually around 2kms, running from the swim enclosure across the park and around the oval.
We were really luck with the weather on Friday Night, it looked at risk of another wet and wild session, but the impressive Sydney storm had cleared by the time training started and we arrived at the beach to a stunning evening, no wind and a beautiful warm water.

Our first club race of the season was held in perfect conditions on what we still consider to be the most scenic triathlon course in Australia! Congratulations to all who raced. Derek Mulhearn and Lauren Bourke took out the male and female wins with some very close podium placings behind them.
It was great to see John Simmonds and Merri Mack returning to the race course. Always enjoyable to see Coach Bruce Thomas rolling around too. He was last seen whingeing about the stair climb out of the swim. Thoughts are with Murray who took a pretty nasty tumble on the bike while out in front. No doubt he'll be back soon dragging Jack McPhee around.
THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who helped out. These events can't happen without you.
A big shout out to Mike Gough our committee Race Director who puts a huge amount of work into these races. There's a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to running a sanctioned triathlon event and he's worked very hard to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. Thanks Mike.
Also thanks to Bri McPhee and Greg Mulhearn for grabbing some great photos of the morning.
He went in as a favourite for the top spot on the podium in one of the most hotly contested mens field we've seen in a club race but he walked away with a broken bike, a broken rib and maybe a bit of a broken heart.
Read Murray Robertson's entertaining account of the first BTC club race of the season via the link below. We hope you recover quickly Murray. No doubt you'll be ready for the triple tri and to defend your Husky sprint tri win in February.
Sign up as a volunteer for our first club race on Sunday 25 October here!
Our Betar Lawyers club race series is the pride of BTC and we wouldn't be able to run them without the help of volunteers.
Are you racing in our first club race on October 25 and have some family members who can be a marshall? Or perhaps you're tapering for Noosa and can spend the morning as a marshall cheering on our athletes? Or maybe you're on the slow build back into training after winter hibernation and the thought of racing yourself frightens you?
What does volunteering involve? Marhsall briefing is at 6am (the sunrises are spectacular at the moment!) and you'll be placed on the course as either a swim, bike or run marshall and fully briefed on what you need to do. Most of it involves pointing our athletes in the right direction on the beautiful course with stunning views while giving them a cheer/heckle as they go by. You then get to celebrate with the athletes at the finish line over some delicious food. There are also volunteer prizes drawn at the prize ceremony!
If you or a family or friend can volunteer as a marshall we'd love to see you register via this link so that we can keep track of our numbers and make sure we have enough to enable the event to go ahead.
TryStars starts on the 20th of November! For full info on the program click here.
TryStars is a junior participation program for 7-12 yr olds that encourages kids to get involved in triathlon all around Australia and we are running the program again this year after great success last year. It consists of 8 x 1 hour sessions will be held at Balmoral Beach on Friday evenings (perfect opportunity for mum and dad to participate in the aquathlons while the kids are kept busy!).
It is the best way for kids to get involved in triathlon and have as much fun as their parents. We have great coaches who will be overseeing the program and ensuring your kids have fun and learn new skills in a safe environment. All participants receive a pack of goodies including rash vest, towel, drink bottle.
The program coincides with our kids club race which will be in the week following the last session.
Cost is $120 per child which includes TA & Club membership and BTC Junior race entry. The cost for club membership for existing club members is refundable.
Rego needs to close by the 5th of November to allow for participant pack orders, so register below!!!
For more info or if you wish to get involved as a TryStars helper, please contact Lew at firstname.lastname@example.org.
