2010 Mooloolaba ITU Triathlon World Cup Race Report by Sophia Amor-Smith

Hi BTC,
Talk about a tough day at the office! The conditions at the Mooloolaba World cup and the course were extremely taxing, around 35 degrees and a hill smack bang in the middle of the course that we had to negotiate 22 times, 14 on the bike and 8 times on the run leg.

My swim start let me down a bit…I need to swim out harder and be with the leaders from the start…otherwise it gets too hard to bridge the gap. I guess having Laura Bennett in the race (who lead the swim out at the Olympics) always sets the race up for a tough swim, I’ll just have to get faster and focus 110% on my swim starts. I came out with some good riders though and we were only 30 sec down coming of the bike onto the run. I didn’t have my best run after such a hard swim/bike but I hung in there and managed to overtake a few girls.
Considering I haven’t started any real speed training yet I had a good solid race and lots of fun which has left me hungry for more!
I was 24th overall and 4th Australian home. This race doubled as the Australian Champs too so not a bad result.
See you all at club champs!
Sophia.
