Great to see Merri Mack pick up yet another age group win – this time at round 2 of the Sydney Triathlon Series at Kurnell.

Looks like we have a lot of keen local racers this season with over 70 at the December triathlon at Obelisk Beach despite an unusually big swell and plenty of chop, although the weather was excellent for racing and not too bad at our transition post (usually freezing there). The total road closure we had for the bike leg made it all a really safe and pleasant expeience for all our racers, oh, except for the hills? Don’t forget our next tri on Sun 3 February. Come along and earn yourself some points towards BTC season awards.

The Chandler McLeod aquathlon attracted 39 starters on our first night of the resurrected series; again despite a serious wind and chop which had both dropped by the time we had finished our debriefing drinks. Our second of eight short, sharp swim/run events will be on 18 Jan, with a week off on Australia Day eve. We’ll resume the series on a weekly basis from Friday 1 February.

Our coaches, Bruce and Christina Thomas, have started up split training sets to cater for long course hopefuls with the NZ and Port Mac Ironman races are coming up. The sessions will continue to provide for developing our short course specialists as well as beginners and slowies like me. These sessions are, as always, held at Alan Border Oval 6:30pm Thursdays and brick (bike/run) in Centennial Park 7am Saturdays.

If you are at a loss for something to do on the weekend after the Port Mac Ironman on 13 April and would not mind a ride, Head across the Great Divide for a beaut cycling event staged by the Bathurst Cycling Club: the B@B – Blayney to Bathurst – with 110km and 7okm options the highlight and braggability bonus is the finish of both up the famous Mt Panorama race circuit; yes up the esses, the opposite way to the big cars.
